Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amelie Poulain

Still a favourite, always puts a smile on my face. Audrey Tautou is gorgeous (and so is Matthieu Kassovitz!). With Paris as the backdrop, you can't go wrong. Magnifique!

Kate Sylvester AW11 - Lost and Found

Kate Sylvester's new collection Lost and Found is based around an art house horror called "Let the Right One In". It is the story of a young, naive bullied boy who with the aid of a peculiar yet beautiful girl, steps over into the dark side to save himself. It is a journey of loss of innocence to find power. This is represented through the collection by the young naive pieces juxtaposed with the sexy sophisticated shapes. Coming soon to Pearls & Lace.

Black Swan

Saw "Black Swan" this week, the amazing new film by Darren Aronofsky and stars Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, Barbara Hershey and Vincent Cassel (remember La Haine?). The film has been receiving rave reviews worldwide, and I must admit I have to give it the same props.

The storyline follows a New York City ballet company that is preparing for the production of Swan Lake, choosing to cast a newcomer as both the White and Black Swan. Dancer Nina Sayers (Natalie Portman) competes for the part alongside several other young dancers, including newcomer Lily (Mila Kunis). Nina lives with her caring but overbearing mother Erica (Barbara Hershey), a failed dancer who tries to control much of Nina's life.

While it isn't an "enjoyable" film to watch, it still captivates you and Natalie Portman's protagonist Nina Sayers stirs mixed emotions in the viewer, tugging at your heartstrings, while at the same time frustrating you incredibly.

The movie is a psychological thriller in the style of Roman Polansky's Rosemary's Baby, The Tenant and Repulsion. The promotional posters continue this homage, and their style have that 70s thriller/horror vibe to it. Check them out:

A beautiful yet disturbing and powerful film that you should definitely see, but be warned, it's a heavy ride.

Like us & win!
